The PS5 version represents a nice step-up in quality to the already solid PS4 version so it’s definitely worth checking out if you own Sony’s latest console. At the same time, it also looks like a lot of folks are confused about how to transfer their PS4 save file to the PS5. The common problem I’ve seen so far involves people trying to download the PS4 save file from the cloud just like they would when playing the PS4 version of the game directly on the PS5 version of the game. This method, however, will not work for the actual PS5 version of the game. Instead, you will need to use the actual game menus of both games to do it.
Review: Final Fantasy VII Remake summons back a timeless classic
Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do the transfer properly. You can also feel free to watch the embedded YouTube video if you want to see the process via actual game footage. Now let’s get started.
How to properly transfer and convert your FF7 Remake PS4 save file to PS5
First, make sure you have either updated your copy of FF7 Remake to at least Version 1.02 on your PS4 console OR have both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game downloaded into your PS5 console. The former is for folks who prefer to do a direct save file upload from their PS4 while the latter is for folks who already have the game downloaded on their PS5 or don’t have their PS4 console anymore. When picking the latter option, also make sure you have your latest PS4 save file on your PS5. You can do this either via cloud transfer if you’re a PS Plus member or by using a USB drive. You know that you’ve done this right if you load up the PS4 version of FF7 on your PS5 and can see your save files via the “Load Game” option in the game’s menu. Now you’re ready to do the actual PS5 transfer.
Step 1: Launch the PS4 version of FF7 Remake on either your PS4 or your PS5. For PS5 players, you can switch between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game by clicking on the game icon on your main PS5 menu, then tapping the ellipses denoted by three dots (…) just to the right of “Play Game.” If you see “PS5 | Full | FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE,” this means that you are already on the PS4 version of the game so all you need to do is go back and tap the “Play Game” icon. If you see is “PS4 | Full | FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE,” click on that to switch to the PS4 version and then click “Play Game.”
Step 2: From the FF7 game menu, click on “Upload Save Data.” Pick the save data you want and voila, you’re good to go. Note that if you have multiple save files, you can’t upload them all in one go. You will need to individually download each file.
Step 3: Exit the game and go to the main PS5 menu. This time, switch to the PS5 version of the game via the (…) icon once again.
Step 4: From the FF7 game menu for the PS5 version, pick “Download Save Data.” Pick the save file you want and continue the download.
And that’s it! If you go to the main menu of the PS5 version, you will see that you can now see your save file or files in the “Load Game” option.
Note, by the way, that this is for the base FF7 Remake game. The Intergrade DLC is actually separate and has its own menu. Here’s how to get to it.
How to download and install FF7 Remake Intergrade DLC
The first thing you need to do, of course, is to purchase the Intergrade DLC. Once you’ve done that, here is what you need to do to start playing it.
Step 1: Launch the PS5 version of the game. Make sure it’s the PS5 version and not the PS4 version in case you have both games in your PS5 console.
Step 2: Go to your main menu and highlight the FF7 Remake icon then press the Start button on your controller, which is located just to the left of the triangle button. This will bring up a sub-menu.
Step 3: From the sub-menu, click “Manage Game Content.” This will allow you to view your add-ons for the game. As long as you’ve bought Intergrade, you will see the file called “FF7R EPISODE INTERmission.” Click the upside-down triangle icon to the right of the file name and you will download the Intergrade DLC, which is just under 9GB in size.
Step 4: To play the Intergrade DLC, go to the main menu of the PS5 version of the game and press R2 to switch menus to the Intergrade DLC. Press the triangle button on your controller to confirm, then pick New Game.
Just launch the game and you can start playing as Wutai’s finest. Now go and enjoy your Yuffie DLC!
